When looking at specifications for any leisure home or lodge model you will notice there are two different standards that they can be built to. In this article we explore what the different standards mean for you and your holiday home.

The two standards you will see are EN1647:2012 Leisure Accommodation Vehicles, and BS3632:2015 Specification for Residential Park Homes.

EN1647:2012 LEISURE ACCOMMODATION VEHICLES

At Victory, we pride ourselves on our high standards, and all of our leisure homes comply with the EN1647 standard. This demands certain construction and testing requirements for elements such as snow loading and structural stability. With a leisure home built to this standard you can guarantee that you will have a good quality, safe holiday home that will last for years to come. Models built to this standard are usually intended for seasonal use.

BS3632:2015 SPECIFICATION FOR RESIDENTIAL PARK HOMES

A model built to BS3632 can be used as a main residence, including throughout the winter months. The construction requirements in this standard more closely resemble those of traditional housing and so your model will be perfect for permanent all-year-round and winter use, (please note though that a model to BS3632 specification still has to be sited on a park with an appropriate licence for all-year-round use).

Some of the upgraded features you’ll get in a BS3632 model are:

  • Increased wall, flooring, roof insulation
  • Double glazing as standard with Low-E glass
  • Central heating as standard
  • A-rated appliances
  • LED lighting
  • No 5% VAT construction charge

As a general rule our leisure home models are built to EN1647 and lodges to BS3632. However, there are leisure home models built to BS3632 and lodges built to EN1647. These options are great because they provide parks with the flexibility to provide for a range of different needs. For example, a luxury lodge holiday experience that is only needed throughout the summer, or a leisure home option perfect for long winter retreats.

Many of our EN1647 leisure home models include a specification that surpass the standard requirements so that they are suitable for early and late season use, and where they don’t, you can upgrade any model with increased insulation, double glazing, central heating and more by shopping from our optional extras list.

So as you can see, although the differences in the specifications themselves are relatively clear, the way in which they are applied to a leisure home or lodge can vary. This is great because it means you get a lot of choice so that you can find a design to suit your individual needs, however it does mean that you need to make sure you read the model specifications carefully to ensure your needs are met.

To make it easy for you to understand what each model in our range provides, we have put a table together below detailing our standard specifications and some of the optional extras available for each model.
