For many people, the idea of escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life has transformed into the dream of owning a personal holiday retreat. Whether it's a seaside sanctuary or a peaceful countryside haven, buying a holiday home or holiday lodge offers the opportunity to create a special place just for you and your family or friends.

However, there are important factors to consider before you decide to buy. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about how to buy a holiday home or holiday lodge – from selecting your dream destination and planning your budget, to choosing the perfect Victory model from our Holiday Homes and Holiday Lodges ranges. Let’s dive in!

What’s the Difference Between a Holiday Home and Holiday Lodge?

People often wonder what the difference between a holiday home and a holiday lodge is.

  • A holiday home, or single unit, is the most popular type of home that we manufacture. They can be up to 14ft wide and come in a range of lengths to suit you.
  • A holiday lodge, or twin unit, can be over double the size of a holiday home, they typically offer more space and often feature an open plan design. They are usually more expensive than holiday homes too, so this is worth bearing in mind when budgeting.

The Buying Process at Victory Leisure Homes

Once you’ve decided that owning a holiday home or lodge is right for you, we have a four-step process to buying your dream home away from home. Here’s your four-step guide to making the buying process as simple as possible:

1. Choose Your Location

Visit different parks to experience the atmosphere, facilities and local surroundings to really get a flavour of what you’re looking for. Whether you love coastal adventures, countryside walks or lively family parks, finding your ideal location is a key first step.

2. Choose Your Dream Home

Our holiday homes and holiday lodges are expertly hand-crafted to suit a variety of lifestyles and tastes, thanks to our innovative Novus technology. Whether you’re looking for spacious layouts, stylish interiors or practical designs for families or pets, we have something to fit your needs. Here are some of the potential considerations to bear in mind:

  • Would you like an en-suite bathroom?
  • Is an open plan living space an important factor?
  • Do you need a two or three-bedroom holiday home?
  • Where can I have my holiday home located?

By thinking about how you’ll use your home or where it can be pitched, you can find your perfect match with ease.

3. Pick Your Dream Pitch

The position of your holiday home matters. Prefer peace and quiet or do you want to be close to amenities and social hubs? It’s also worth considering the views, space for decking and parking availability, as these seemingly smaller elements all make a difference.

4. Place Your Order

Once everything’s decided, placing your order is simple. Just place your order with one of our trusted parks or dealerships from across the UK and Ireland, and we will begin hand-crafting your holiday home or holiday lodge in our factory.

How to Budget for Your Holiday Home or Holiday Lodge

While buying a holiday home or lodge is exciting, it’s essential to budget carefully to avoid unexpected surprises along the way.

The Initial Investment

We provide RRPs for all of our homes and lodges, but the final price that you’ll pay is likely to be different. You will need to consider location, transportation, site fees (these are often charged annually), utilities, optional extras and maintenance. For the most accurate price, please speak to a park or distributor.

Financing Options

Some buyers choose to pay outright, while others prefer flexible payment plans available at many holiday parks. Always check with your chosen park or lender for the best options suited to you.

Can I Put a Holiday Home or Lodge On My Own Land?

Yes you can, but you will need to make sure your budget covers every possibility and consider a few things before going ahead:

  • Do you need planning permission? We would recommend speaking to your local council before making any arrangements.
  • Homes need to sit on a concrete base which will need around a month to harden before anything is placed on them. We would highly recommend asking a skilled tradesperson to do this. You will also need to provide blocks to sit your home on before it arrives.
  • You will need to get in contact with a siting company who can properly site your new home on your land. At Victory Leisure Homes, we can recommend a few excellent teams should you need this.
  • Can your home or lodge be easily connected to gas, electricity, sewage and water? Your home will need to be commissioned by qualified tradespeople e.g. Gas Safe engineer before you can stay or live in it.
  • Do you have a clear access route, or can you easily create one?
  • Do you need to do any prep work for decking or patios before your chosen tradesperson comes to carry out the work?

Can I Customise My Holiday Home or Holiday Lodge?

Yes. We have a range of optional extras that you can add to your holiday home or holiday lodge, such as dishwashers, mattresses, French doors, Bluetooth sound systems and Velux windows. These final touches help to just make your home away from home feel that more special and bespoke.
